Everyone in the the family and at the stable are extremely proud that Alicia’s daughter, Kayla has been accepted into Racing Victoria’s Apprentice Jockey Training Program for 2019.
The 10 successful applicants were inducted at Racing Victoria’s headquarters today. The six female and four male aspiring riders boast great bloodlines in the racing industry. Three of the teenagers’ fathers are Group 1 winning jockeys and others have families well entrenched in racing, some for generations. Kayla is in elite company, in an elite program.
Her induction today is the culmination of lots of hard work, dedication and perserverance by Kayla over several years. She has been riding trackwork for our stable for several years and recently has been on a few of our horses in their jumpouts. She has also commenced riding trackwork for Luke Oliver’s stable.
She has applied for the program in previous intakes but has not been successful. For her to achieve the standards required to be accepted this time makes today even more special.
The 4 year program is widely regarded as one of the best in the industry worldwide and includes race riding skills as well as elite sports components that include specialist guidance from an expert team on physical training, nutrition, physiotherapy and sports psychology to name but a few.
As Greg Carpenter, RV’s Executive General Manager – Racing, said today “Over the next four years, these 10 aspiring young riders will learn every facet of what it takes to become an elite jockey in one of the country’s most competitive sporting environments.
We know that everyone will join us in wishing Kayla the very best for her riding career, as she embarks on this exciting journey.
