Onamissionfromgod produced a terrific performance to pass his first staying test with flying colours in the Lloyd Thomas Painting Handicap (2107m) at Kilmore.

The son of God’s Own had never raced over further than 2000 metres in his previous 26 starts but also had to contend with a hefty 60kg handicap in the Rating 58 event.

Jockey Nick Souquet resumed his partnership with Onamissionfromgod after riding the gelding at Albury on June 23. The experienced jockey took the five-year-old to the front in the early stages of the $15,000 event.

Souquet rated Onamissionfromgod perfectly throughout the race, backing the speed off midrace to save his mount’s energy for a final sprint at the finish.

Onamissionfromgod had his opposition off the bit from the time Souquet quickened the tempo from the 650 metres, opening a good break rounding the home turn.

Onamissionfromgod had the race in his keeping when the 60kg he was carrying began to take its toll over the final 50 metres but the game customer still had a clear margin to spare at the finish.

The win was Onamissionfromgod’s third from 27 starts and the $9000 winner’s cheque took his prizemoney to more than $60,000.

Congratulations to Onamissionfromgod’s owners – C C Macpherson, Ms E Rae, S Isbister, D Gruevski, Mrs K J O'Callaghan, M E Nott, J Celano, C G Anderson, R O'Shannessey & J Soklevski.
