Trainer Successful at Home - The North Central Review 18/5/10

Rokonya, a five-year-old daughter of Shagny and Blushing Rose, was an all the way winner of the second division of Sportingbet 0-62 Handicap (1200m).

When most riders went wide on the turn, stable apprentice, Stacey Rawiller, stuck to the rails and kicked the mare four lengths clear on straightening and held on to defeat the fast-finishing favourite, Lonhrielle, by a half-length with Biscay Steel two lengths away, third.

Part-owned by Macpherson, Rokonya was having her second start this prep with the win her fourth from 21 starts. She has also been runner-up on three occasions.

Wangaratta Win for Alicia & Family - The North Central Review

Kilmore trainer, Alicia Macpherson, produced Onamissionfromgod for a good first-up win at Wangaratta's Cup meeting on Sunday.

Having his first run since a close second at Ballarat last December, the two-year-old gelded son of God's Own and Carbonated was a narrow but impressive winner of the $15,000 SV 2YO Maiden Plate (1170m).

Positioned just behind the leaders in the run, Onamissionfromgod looked to be struggling on the turn but under vigorous riding by Mark Pegus, the gelding responded going to the line in good fashion to win by a head over Dash For Magic with Rebel Ridge a further 2 1/4 lengths away, third.

Part-owned by the trainer's sister, Emily, and their father, Clive, together with other stable clients, Onamissionfromgod was a $34,000 purchase at the 2009 Inglis Premier Yearling Sales.

LOCAL CUP DAY WINNER - The North Central Review 16/2/10

Alicia Macpherson got a real thrill with the win of Very Suave ($8) in the race her stable sponsored – the $27,000 Alicia Macpherson Racing Stables 0-68 Handicap (1600m).

Macpherson had many supporters edging the Choisir gelding on, as she hosted a marquee for the day with over 110 owners, friends and staff enjoying her hospitality.

Very Suave is raced by Macpherson and a host of syndicate members and was ridden by Mark Pegus.

The consistent three-year-old gelding has now raced eight times for two wins and three second placings.

The race was a good one for Macpherson as her other runner, 25-1 outsider Grass Ruler, ridden by Andrew Mallyon ran a creditable third.

Stacey Rawiller, has been riding in good form lately. She rode a great race on Homelander at Ararat on 20/11/09 to only get beaten by a nose and then followed up the next day with 2nd place on the Lee Hope trained Distillery at Kilmore and then rode her first city winner for trainer, Dennis Oliver, on Roof Raiser at Sandown. Stacey also rode Roof Raiser at her previous start at Kilmore for a win.

Congratulations Stacey!

Local Grey Galloper in Back-to-Back Wins - The North Central Review

The ultra-consistent Alicia Macpherson trained Grey Mist ($4.80) made it back-to-back wins at Yarra Valley gallops meeting on Saturday.

The five year old daughter of Bureaucracy and Fleet Forward was super impressive in taking out the 0-72 Handicap over 1950 metres.

Grey Mist, who hasn’t been out of a place in her past seven starts, was too good for the opposition, defeating Northwood Lass ($7) by 3¾ lengths, with the OTI syndicate owned $3.50 favorite, Brand New Pair, a half length away, third.

Positioned back in the small field by Brian Park, Grey Mist was set alight when straightening, for a good win.

The mare has now won three races and six minor placings from her 17 starts.

ALICIA KOs QUADDIE TAKERS - The North Central Review 22/9/09

Kilmore trainer, Alicia Macpherson’s Homelander blew punters out of the quaddie at Seymour last Thursday.

The Rangal Park bred gelded son of Keltrice and Jovan was a narrow winner of the Mitchelton Wines 0-78 Showcase Handicap (1400m) paying the Supertab win dividend of $25.60.

Homelander was ridden by the stable apprentice, Stacey Rawiller, who settled the gelding back in the field, pulling him out well into the straight, where he stormed home to record a narrow but impressive win over joint 25-1 outsiders Seek The Stars and Riverdale.

Homelander, leased by Kilmore Racing Club Chairman, Eric Buttler, to the trainer and Minstral Park clients, has now had 28 starts for seven wins and four minor placings.

SEYMOUR WIN FOR ALICIA - The North Central Review

Kilmore trainer, Alicia Macpherson, has found the key to the success and consistency with Reefton Road.

The seven-year-old gelded son of North Reef and Tilley was a comfortable winner of the $22,650 Country Showcase 0-68 Handicap over 2000 metres at Seymour Racing Club’s Victorian Country Thoroughbred Festival Race Day on Sunday.

“The key is to keep him fresh. He’s so honest,” Macpherson said.

Last season’s Victorian Apprentice of the Year, Nick Hall, had the gelding sitting perfectly in third place throughout the run until well into the straight, when he collared the leaders at the 200 metres to come away to defeat Testatiga by 1½ lengths with early leader Top Rock a further four lengths away, third.

A “mountain” of a horse, Reefton Road, appears that he could stay all day, with a Moonee Valley 3000-metre race not out of the question.

Starting at the good odds of $12, the gelding has now been placed in five of his past seven starts, which include two wins.

“I’ll just give him a quiet time for a few weeks and then pick out a suitable race for him,” Macpherson said.

Among the gelding’s owners are Lancefield residents, George and Rachel Zaharakis, and Paul and Michelle Rix along with other Minstral Park Thoroughbred Racing clients.

The stable was unlucky not to make it a winning double for the day, when Last Man Out, having his first run since January, was just pipped on the post by last season’s Kilmore’s Horse of the Year, Side Splitter in the $27,650 Mitchelton Wines 0-78 Handicap over 1300 metres.

Congratulations to all connections of Homelander after winning the Team Rooney Racing Country Showcase Handicap over 1300 metres at Wodonga on 17/7/09. Homelander was nicely positioned just off the pace by jockey, Carl Spry, who then ran down the leaders to win by a long neck.

Tatura Winner for Alicia - The North Central Review 7/7/09

Kilmore trainer Alicia Macpherson's Reefton Road ($9) was rewarded for his consistency in an impressive win in the Paul & Eva Wilcox 0-62 Handicap at Kyneton District Racing Club's transferred meeting to Tatura last Friday.

The six-year-old gelded son of North Reef and Tilley, who had been placed at his previous two starts, had to be used up from an outside barrier over the 1980 metre journey to sit outside the leader.

On straightening, rider Eddie Cassar took the gelding to the front and came away to defeat the $3.70 favorite Broadarrowbilly by 2 1/2 lengths with 30-1 outsider, Superior Ned, a further 1 1/2 lengths away in third place.

A "mountain" of a horse, Reefton Road, did well to get around the tight Tatura track and will be better suited on a larger track.
